International

In the age of globalisation, exchange of experiences, networking and cooperation are essential and important for the further development and enhancement of the legal profession and the rule of law. Many concerns of the legal profession transcend national boundaries and therefore require bilateral and multilateral cooperation with other Bars and Bar Associations. To this end, the DAV International department tends to and coordinates relations with Bars and Bar Associations across the globe, ranging from France and Turkey to the United States of America or Japan. The DAV international department is also a contact point for foreign (attorney) delegations. The DAV also cooperates with organisations to organise large-scale multilingual events like the Campus 2019 in Berlin, a conference organised by the French Bar and DAV, with focus on Legal Tech. Another element of this is the German-Chinese Rule of Law Dialogue, a forum instituted by the German Ministry of Justice and the Chinese government, in which the DAV is an important project partner. The DAV co-organises the yearly German-Chinese symposium on the rule of law which allows exchange on diverse topics of interests to both countries, such as regulation of legal services.

The DAV also represents the interests of the German legal profession in international lawyers’ organisations such as the international Bar Association (IBA), Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), the Association International des Jeunes Avocats (AIJA) or the International Institute of Law Association Chief Executives (IILACE). These organisations offer a forum for exchange and help foster bilateral and multilateral relations, but area also important to give lawyers a common voice on key issues facing the legal profession right now and help define responses to key challenges of the future.
